William R. Peterson Jr.

William R. Peterson Jr., 76, of Avalon passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband of Betty J. Peterson for 54 years, devoted father of Marykim Peterson and Joy (Matthew) Zuck; proud grandfather of Timothy Peterson, Adaline Murtha, John Murtha, Archer Zuck, Stella Zuck and Bryar Zuck; loving brother of Linda Mackall, Paul (Carol) Peterson, Virginia Peterson, Shirley (Ken) Buch and Roy (Carmen) Peterson; brother-in-law of Patricia Howard, Michelle Waters and Lynn Tennant Heffley.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Virginia Grace Peterson and his sister, Mary Peterson.

William (“Pete”) was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. A graduate of Bellevue High School, he was a devoted employee for 37 years of Duquesne Light, now First Energy. He was a member of the Masonic Perry

Ionic Lodge 796 F & A, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the American Legion. He served on the board of the Hampshire House.

Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, whether fishing, relaxing at his camp, or attending all his grandchildren’s events. Pete was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family.

The family would like to thank the staff at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Moon Township, for their generosity and support.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 2pm to 4 pm and 6pm to 8pm at the MacDonald-Linn Funeral Home (529 California Ave., Avalon 15202). A service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at MacDonald-Linn Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the National Cemeteries of the Alleghenies.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hillman Cancer Center.
