Ruth Trent of Ben Avon died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 27, 2022, surrounded by family. Born and raised in Oil City, she was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late George Ervin Trent. She was 93.
She graduated from nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. After the youngest of her seven children started school, she worked for many years at West Penn Hospital. She retired in 1996.
Ruth enjoyed working in her garden more than her kitchen, and will always be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and wide array of Christmas cookies. She also was a world traveler who enjoyed many happy hours at the cabin she and her husband built along the Clarion River in Cook Forest.
Ruth is survived by her children Kathryn Trent of Emsworth; Kristin Toberman (David) of Piney Creek, N.C.; George Trent (Debra) of Loxley, Al.; Thomas Trent (Victoria) of Tucker, Ga.; Gretchen McKay (Peter) of Ben Avon; and Rosemary Trent (Daniel Stoner) of Bethesda, Md.; and 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Frederick (Allison) Trent and infant grandchild Samantha Trent; and also two sisters, Gretchen O’Brien of Westford, Mass., and Rosemary Laumeyer of Teton Village, Wy.
There will be no visitation and internment will be private. Contributions in her name can be made to Meals on Wheels, where she was a volunteer for many years.
