Rina Allen Obituary

Michelina Rina (Barbara)DelMonte Allen

Rina Allen, 95, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 having made many memories with family and friends.   Formerly of Emsworth, PA, Rina spent the last four years near her son in Medina, Ohio.

Rina was born on September 29, 1927 to Elvira (Cianchetti) and Domenic Marco DelMonte on Amelia Street in McKees Rocks, PA.

She married Norman E. Allen and had three children, Eric, Mark and Lori.

Her first job was at West Park Hardware in McKees Rocks where she was well liked by her customers.  Known to “fix” almost anything she put her hardware skills to good use.  At age 70, she became a meat wrapper at Kuhn’s in Bellevue where she was the “Energizer Bunny” of the meat department.

Rina was an avid Steelers/“Big Ben” and Penguins fan.  She loved Mancini’s bread and shopping at Giant Eagle, Rite Aid, or the Dollar Store where she vigilantly checked prices and expiration dates leaving cashiers “shaking in their boots”.  She faithfully attended Sacred Heart Catholic church in  Emsworth or watched mass on TV.  She valued the community as much as the sermons, and she liked to add her commentary as to where people were sitting and what they were wearing.

Rina was passionate about cooking, baking, and family gatherings.  She will be remembered for her pizzelles; pumpkin roll; fried chicken; baked rigatoni, Italian wedding soup; and many varieties of cookies, pies, and cakes. Members of her large Italian family have many memories of parties at Rina’s.  She loved to laugh and entertained others by singing, dancing and uttering her many hilarious sayings, such as “go fly a kite”. “oh phooey” “best of luck to you”, and “stay sober”.  Rarely did a holiday or birthday go by without Rina’s special song, ending in Ole! Over the years she enjoyed family vacations in Myrtle Beach where she collected seashells, enjoyed eating at the buffets and was “the boss” of the beach.

Rina was predeceased by her mother and father, husband, son (Eric), sister Eva Gould, and brother, Frederick DelMonte. She is survived by: her Senegal Parrot, “Pepe”; son, Mark(Sheila) Allen of Medina, OH, grandchildren Rebecca (Manchester Ctr., VT) and Aaron (Kent, OH); daughter, Lori Yarsky(Robert), grandchildren Maria, Joseph and Samuel; brother John DelMonte (Jean) of Bethel Park, PA; brother Vincent DelMonte (Elvira) of Washington, PA; goddaughter/niece Dana Gallis of Pittsburgh, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
