Our loving son, brother, and uncle, Paul Douglas McCauley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Paul was born in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, on July 15, 1959 to Paul Stewart McCauley and Ann Lucille Fitzgerald McCauley. He lived his entire life in Avalon except for the times he served in the United States Navy and when he worked in Alaska fishing. He worked as a house painter throughout his working years, a trade that reflected his steady, hands-on nature.
From a young age, Paul loved football. As a boy, he played little league football with his dad as his coach, and continued to enjoy playing in Junior High, which began a lifelong passion for the game. That love of football continued throughout his life as he faithfully followed the Steelers, along with the teams of the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Ohio State, and West Virginia University. Sundays were especially meaningful to Paul because he watched games and talked football with his parents, particularly with his mother in recent years.
As a child, Paul loved to read. His thirst for knowledge started with reading through encyclopedias. He was an avid reader throughout the rest of his life, especially anything about history.
One of Paul’s favorite places was at “Camp”, where he spent time with his parents and siblings making memories. Even as an adult, Paul continued to return to the same camp, often bringing his tent and camping out of his own, content simply to being there.
Paul was known for his infectious laugh, often heard before he was seen. He loved his family deeply and showed it to his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He delighted in entertaining them with funny faces and silly noises. They never doubted how much they were loved by him. In return, they loved him dearly.
Paul is survived by his loving mother, Ann, and his siblings Ruth Ann Lloyd (Thomas, deceased), Nancy Jean Sessions (Michael), and Kenneth Lester McCauley (Karen); along with fifteen nieces and nephews, and forty great-nieces and great-nephews, and many loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Stewart McCauley, and by a brother-in-law, Thomas Lloyd.
In accordance with Paul’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Friends of Pittsburgh, where Paul found companionship with his beloved cats.
