Josephine M. Matthews

Josephine "Jo" M. Matthews, age 101 passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at her home. She was born on January 5, 1921 and was the beloved wife of the late H Gordon Matthews for over 40 years. 

She is survived by her loving children Mary Jo (D. Charlie Wingerd) Matthews, Gordon H (Frances Foley) Matthews and four grandchildren, Laura M. (Adam) Studebaker, Jonathan M. Leff, Tyler M. Leff, and Joseph F. Matthews (Corey Stone); three great-grandchildren, Jackson T. Studebaker, Nolan P. Studebaker, and Oakley S. Matthews and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jo taught at both Highcliff and McIntyre Elementary in the North Hills School District for many years. She was always a teacher, whether in the classroom, or sharing with family the values of responsibility, thrift, saving, and living within our means.  Jo was a true matriarch: family always came first.  She was an avid gardener, fully enjoyed annual family vacations to the beach, and was a member of Hiland Presbyterian Church.

A private graveside service will be held at the wishes of the family. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank Jo's loving caregivers, Netta and Vicky, for so kindly tending to Jo's needs over the past year.
