Elwood Walter Krah, longtime resident of Ohio Township, passed away on July 17 at age 95 of natural causes. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Luella (Neale), who passed away in 2020 after 68 years of marriage. Loving father of John (Nancy) Krah, Steven Krah, and Judith (Scott) Kording. Grandfather of Susan (Trevor) Katilius, Elizabeth (John) Graner, and Michael Kording. Great grandfather of Jack and Jimmy Graner.
Mr. Krah, a native of Avalon, served in the US Navy in the Mediterranean and North Africa on an LST during World War II. Following his service, he returned to Pittsburgh and graduated from Duquesne University. He had a long career as a manufacturers’ representative of specialty check valves primarily in the steel and chemical industries, often traveling from Birmingham, Alabama, to Gary, Indiana. He had an extensive knowledge of the industrial and manufacturing facilities in his territory and was known for his ability in helping them meet their applications. Sales trips that often included his family resulted in a lifetime of memorable stories. “Dad, is the pool supposed to be green?”
A longtime member of the Shriners, he was active and well known in his community. He was always ready to lend a hand to help his many friends, and quietly and anonymously often helped friends and neighbors in need.
He was also preceded in death by his older sister, Berniece Molin. They had a lifelong closeness following the death of their mother during their childhood. He had great affection for his nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Christ Episcopal Church, 5910 Babcock Boulevard, Pittsburgh PA 15237. Mr. Krah will be interred in the Memorial Garden at the church. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald- Linn Funeral and Cremation LLC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Neale Stewart Brandon Scholarship Fund at Northgate High School. Donations may be sent to 285 McKinley Avenue, Avalon PA 15202.
