Elizabeth M. Rice, age 99 of Avalon went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 after a long and courageous battle. She was born on February 4, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Peter and Veronica Sokoloski of Ellwood City/Fombell, Penna.
Elizabeth was a United States Army Nurse Veteran and after serving, she worked as a nurse at Little Sisters of the Poor for many years. She served as a Missionary in Haiti for four years and was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, being the oldest member of the church. She was a woman of her faith, a dedicated prayer warrior and towards the end of her life she wrote beautiful poetry.
Survived by three loving children, Veronica (James) Guerriero, Samuel Rice, and Elizabeth Giesey; five grandchildren, Kate (Bryan) Perun, Christopher (Anai) Guerriero, Sam (Shannyn) Giesey, Sarah (Ralph) Frey, and Peter (Erika) Giesey; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Guerriero, Daniel Guerriero-Bravo, Victoria Guerriero-Bravo, Maxwell Giesey, Mason Giesey, Willa Frey, Quinn Frey, and Arlo Giesey; and many family and Friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Eleanor Scantling (Kenneth), Nancy Straessley (William), and Robert Sokoloski (Marge) and her Dog Snoopy who was very important to her.
A Memorial Service of her life will be held at a later date.
