Dorothy McDonald Linn – Obituary
Dorothy Linn, age 93 of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her son David Linn and her daughter-in-law Linda in Salt Lake City Utah.
Born on March 24, 1932 Dorothy was raised in Avalon Pennsylvania and lived in the Pittsburgh area for most of her life. Later she retired to Vero Beach Florida.
Dorothy’s achievements included a Bachelor of Science (Physical Therapy), Master’s of Science (Child Development), and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Education) from the University of Pittsburgh. During her Undergraduate years at the University of Pittsburgh she was selected by the esteemed Heinz Chapel Choir for membership. Much of her career was spent at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh. As part of the John Merck Program, she specialized in working with dual diagnosed children, including the practical application of physical therapy. Subsequently, she accepted a Professorship at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Later in Life, she held the distinct title of oldest, Licensed, Practicing Physical Therapist in the State of Pennsylvania. A Life Dedicated to Service.
She is proceeded in death by husband of 57 years, Alan Linn, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son Gregory Linn of Alpharetta, Georgia, and sister Sara Jane McDonald of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by son, Jeffrey Linn of Vero Beach, Florida, son David Linn of Salt Lake City, Utah, brother Richard McDonald of Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Additionally, survived by two grandchildren Alexander, Linn and Nicholas Linn of Alpharetta Georgia.
Visitation will be held on Saturday January 24, 2026 at the McDonald-Linn Funeral home in Avalon PA from 10am – 11am. Memorial service at McDonald-Linn at 11 am, January 24, 2026, with burial service at West Union Cemetery, Mars, PA to follow immediately after.
