Dennis Erdner Obituary

Dennis “Denny” Alan Erdner Sr. passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 70. After a long battle with surgery complications, he is now finally at peace. Born on July 3, 1954, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Denny was the son of the late Warren “Pete” and Dolores (Martin) Erdner-Scheuring. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren “Pete” Erdner Jr. (Patricia) and Robert “Bob” Erdner. He leaves behind his siblings, Chuck Erdner (Kathy), Karen Sproul (Jim), Kathy Erdner, and Lori Presto (Frank). As his children grew up, Denny enjoyed coaching the various sporting endeavors of his son Dennis Erdner Jr. (Jaime) and his daughters Michelle Erdner, Nicole Erdner, and Lisa Hermann (Samuel). He was preceded in death by his son Douglas Erdner. In his later years, Denny loved spending time golfing with his grandsons Dennis and Jacob Erdner (sons of Denny Erdner Jr. and Jaime) and being a frequent attendee at his grandson Stephon Graham’s (son of Nicole Erdner) hockey games. He was also expecting his first granddaughter in September from his daughter Lisa Hermann. Denny was a graduate of Avonworth High School, where he was noted in his senior picture for being “friendly, mischievous,” and for his ability to “cheer up any situation.” After Avonworth he graduated from Pittsburgh Tech and went on to be a draftsman for many years. A lifelong Pittsburgher, Denny was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially of the Steelers and Penn State and was known for his ritualistic ways during game time. He was affectionately referred to as “Happy” by his youngest grandson and other family members—a fitting description of how he liked making his family feel. Denny and his antics will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends and family are welcome to join for a viewing from 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 8 PM on Monday, August 5th, at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 6th, at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, located at 529 California Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. If you’d like to send something in Denny’s memory instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Avonworth Eagles, an organization he was a coach and board member of for many years. Checks can be made out to Avonworth Eagles and sent to: 207 Buckingham Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
