Charles William Martin Sr.

March 23, 1926 ~ April 23, 2012 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Age 86, formerly of Ohio Twp. and Emsworth, on April 23, 2012. Known to his friends as "Trucker" He lived life on his own terms and never hesitated to give you his opinion on whatever topic was being discussed. He grew up during the challenging times of the Depression and the Second World War. At 17, he quit high school and enlisted in the Marine Corp. so that he could serve his country in the war. He was sent to the South Pacific and fought at the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. He was always very proud of having been a Marine. After the war he did construction for awhile but worked primarily as an over the road truck driver. In 1966 he was given last rites after being severely injured in an automobile accident. However, out of stubbornness and will power he not only survived, but made a full recovery. He went on to live 46 years more years. He was married twice to Louise Bregan who whom he had three children, Charles Martin Jr. of Ross township, Sharon Erdlen, (Bob), of Bell Acres and Marlene Gaza, (Lenny) of Hopewell Township and later to Marilyn Jones. He enjoyed working in his garden, socializing with his friends and the Steelers. In addition to his children, he is survived by two sisters, Dolores Scheuring of Cranberry Township, Sally Schirnhofer of Ross Township, two grandchildren, Robert Erdlen Jr. and Casey Riemer and ten great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Martin, his father Charles Paskewickz, his step-father, Byron Martin and his granddaughter, Natalie Wain. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and again Thursday from 9 until the time of services at 9:30 at the McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Inc. 529 California Ave. Avalon. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
