Carolyn Ann Layland, longtime resident of Pittsburgh’s Northside, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2023 at the age of 64. She experienced a slow decline after being diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease in 2013. Carolyn is survived by Michael Layland, her beloved husband of 47 years; six children: Nicholas (& Erika) Layland of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Ellen (& Nate) Abbott of Orem, Utah, Patricia (& Dallon) Holmes of Logan, Utah, Beth (& Justin) Vail of Silverdale, Washington, Mary Layland (& Nick Giallonardo) of Pittsburgh, Peter (& Allyssa) Layland of Bellevue; and eighteen grandchildren.
Carolyn was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in church responsibilities, particularly compassionate service. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, and worked outside of the home as a caregiver.
Carolyn loved to read lengthy works of historical fiction and play board games. She had a passion for thrifting at 2nd-hand stores, yard sales, and antique shops, and she had an eye for artistically unique pieces. She was a strong swimmer, and she loved music. She had a great sense of humor.
Carolyn was the beloved matriarch of a family that loves her and greatly misses her warm smile, her cheery disposition, and her fun-loving personality. We all look forward to our reunion with her in the eternities.
A family memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
