CAROLE MILDA KENNEDY WIEDMANN. (Age 86)
Passed away at her home in Ohio Township on Friday, November 25, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband Paul Wiedmann and four children Claire, John, Katherine and Christina and son-in-law John Ednie. She is also survived by her sister Susan and brother-in-law James, and their children Christine, Katherine and James; her sister-in-law Elsa Fecak and her children Patricia, Diane and Kevin; her cousins: Michele Richard and his wife Peggy, and his children Michelle, Paul, Kevin, and Dana; Julie Lewis, and her daughter Jessica; Kenneth Stromborg and his daughters Julie and Brenda; and Paul Stromborg and his sons Nels and Daniel; along with many other relatives, friends and her devoted Fender pup.
Carole was born in Manhattan, NY, studied fashion design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and graduated from college in 1958. She met her husband Paul Wiedmann on the A train in New York City at age 17 and they were together for 68 years. Carole moved to Pittsburgh in 1959 and joined the Ladies Auxiliary and the Grange in Ohio Township. She entered her flower arrangements in the Grange fair and won blue ribbons for her canned goods. She was a talented pianist and loved playing Scott Joplin rags. She went back to school in 1979 with daughter Claire to get her nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse for many years and later focused on her love of gardening as a perennial expert at Reilly’s Farm. She was a vice president and board member of the Thomas Merton Center and was an activist in the anti-war movement. In her sixties and seventies, she was a member of Code Pink and regularly went to Washington DC to participate in peace marches. She was an avid reader, environmentalist, and a lover of opera and the arts.
Family and Friends are welcome for visitation on Friday December 2, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday 11 am to 12 pm at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home at 529 California Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. A memorial service will be held at 12 pm Saturday December 3, 2022 at McDonald-Linn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. https://waterlandlife.org
