Alene Virginia “Sissy” Sligh, 83 of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully at home on March 21,
2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Alene was born on May 5, 1942, in Rockbridge County and lived most of her life in Lexington
VA. She was the daughter of the late James Lawrence Smith and Margaret Mays Smith. In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Harry Smith, Grover Smith,
James Smith and Carl Smith and her sisters Patsy and Mildred.
She is survived by her daughter Wendy Michalow and grandchildren Caroline Michalow and
Matthew Michalow, her niece Angela Martin and sister-in-law Wanda Smith and many other
nieces and nephews.
She retired from the hospitality industry at Days Inn; but remained a faithful care giver to her
family her entire life; always available to help in anyway. Alene was especially devoted and
proud of her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Grammy.” She loved the outdoors, golf,
gardening, and her pets.
Following Alene’s wishes no funeral services will be held. McDonald-Linn Funeral Home
provided cremation services.
