Roderick Scott Obituary

Roderick “Rod or Roddy” Wheeler Scott, Jr. Age 59 of Monroeville, PA and Jupiter, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Rod attended primary and middle school in Avalon before graduating from Northgate High School in 1978. In highschool, Rod ran track, played football, and excelled in basketball. He lead the Northgate Flames to a WPIAL Championship Title his senior year. Rod then attended and graduated from Duquesne University in 1983 on a full athletic scholarship and played basketball while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. In February 2016, Rod was recognized as a 2015 Hall of Fame Legend by the Pittsburgh Basketball Club. His undeniable gift of gab and pleasantly witty charm set him up for numerous years in various sales positions throughout the city of Pittsburgh. Starting off as a proud Encyclopedia salesman straight out of college to landing his dream job as a top notch pharmaceutical sales representative, Rod’s climb to the top in the workforce included many stops: Bell Atlantic, PNC Bank, Pittsburgh Brewing Company, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rod walked through life at his own pace, he never rushed any moment. He took the time to literally watch the weather - an intense storm brewing or the calm and serene ocean view sunrise. He fed the birds. He sipped his coffee slow and savored every bit of his food, homemade, restaurant made, or gourmet on the hospital tray. Whether cracking a dry humored joke, or so confidently telling you something only he knew was a fact, Rod had a way with words that sparked conversation and kept you thinking. From preaching politics, to spitting out scripture, Rod was a student of life, never missing an opportunity to educate himself and share his mind or his many, many notes.
Rod will be remembered by everyone including his longtime friends, coaches, coworkers, former players, and of course, his many golf buddies. He is survived by an entire family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Rod’s immediate family will represent him with great pride as he was the faithful son of Gale Edmunds Scott and the late Roderick Wheeler Scott, Sr. Supportive brother of Audrey R. Scott and Eric Keith Scott. Beloved father of Shayla Nicole Scott and Tyler Bruce Scott. Devoted grandfather of Maverick Blake Laboy. Loving fiance of Janice Bonneville. Rod is also survived by the mother of his children Jennifer Bruce Scott and his nieces Chelsea Bruce-McCrommon, Carmen Bruce, and Courteney Bruce. Visitation will be held on Thursday 4-8 at McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC, 529 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Additional visitation will be held Friday 10 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11 AM in Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 271 Paulson Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
