Dr. W. Wayne Brandon

Age 92, of Avalon, on Friday morning July 7, 2017 on his own terms with his family nearby. Beloved husband of 67 years to Lauretta Brandon; dear father of Darryl (Heidi) Brandon, Dawn (Charles) Shaw, and the late David (surviving spouse Gina) Brandon; "Pap Pap" of Jake, Dylan, Matthew, Samantha, Nathan, and Rachel. Wayne proudly served our country in the US Army during World War II as a combat infantry Sergeant in Europe and the Philippines. He graduated from Slippery Rock University and the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained his Doctorate degree in Education and was a Phi Beta Kappa member. Wayne worked as a teacher, principal, and superintendent at the Avalon High School for 21 years, and then he worked at Allegheny Intermediate Unit for 12 years as the Associate Executive Director until his retirement in 1985. He was a master Mason of the North Hills Masonic Lodge #716 Syria Shrine, and sang with the Chanters. Family and friends are welcome for visitation Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the McDONALD - LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, LLC, 529 California Ave., Avalon, PA 15202, 412-766-7000. A Funeral Service will be held Friday 10 a.m. at the Greenstone United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors 2:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
