Robert Leslie Winter

Age 94, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018. He was born July 28, 1923, in Champaign, IL to Floyd and Leola (Peterson) Winter. Beloved husband of the late Jane (Redding). Survived by daughter Jennifer Spear and grandchildren Elizabeth, Justin and Jerry Spear. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy. During World War II, he was sent to Brown and MIT for the US Air Force Meteorological Engineering Program, followed by Flight Control training. After the war, he remained active in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He earned a BA from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. His business experience during the 1950's encompassed consulting and managerial positions with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, American Distilling, Arthur D. Little, and Pittsburgh Corning (including living in Belgium for several years). In 1973, he bought Gilbert Lane Personnel Service of Pittsburgh (specialists in recruiting accounting and finance executives). He sold the service in 1978 and became an officer of Mellon Bank, retiring in 1988. He was active in the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, serving as an Elder and Clerk of Session. In the 1960's, he was a Director of the World Affairs Council. From 1980 to 1999, he was a Director of the Vocational Rehabilitation Center, (now called Life's Work) and was chairman of it's Industrial Advisory Committee. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and golf. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11a.m. at MCDONALD – LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC. 529 California Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202.
